Meet with a psychologist or psychiatrist to determine the best course of action for your social anxiety. Steps to Overcoming Paruresis On Your Own 1. Enlist the help of a trusted friend or relative. This person will be present during early exposures to mimic the situations that you would experience in public. If you are unable to find a partner, it is possible to follow the steps by utilizing naturally occurring public locations. 2. Learn whether urgency to urinate makes it more or less difficult for you to perform. If having to urinate urgently makes the process easier, be sure to drink lots of fluids prior to each exposure session. Sometimes moving back a step in your hierarchy can also help. 5. Meet your partner for a 3-minute break. 6. Once again, attempt to urinate. Do not use coping strategies such as running a faucet or trying not to make noise. This will only extend the time needed for exposure as you will later need to learn how to perform without coping techniques. 7. Continue in this fashion, alternating exposures and breaks for up to an hour. 8. If the session has been successful, move on to the next easiest item on your hierarchy and practice this exposure in your next session. Have a goal of working on exposures at least twice per weekâ€"several times per week being even better. 9. After 8 to 12 sessions, you should find your ability to urinate freely greatly improved. Completing 15 to 20 sessions is the ideal goal. If all of the above sounds too daunting or too much to start with, consider joining a paruresis support group. There you will meet other people who are struggling with the same problems and who will be able to give you support as you work on overcoming this difficulty. My older brother Hector, confessed to me last year before he left to travel the world with his new job as a flight attendant for American Airlines, that he liked men. Meaning he’s homosexual. Do I care? No because its his decision and not anyone elses. But here is how it all slowly began to build up. To begin with, my dad and brother have never had that all american father ­ son relationship as you see in movies nowadays. Hector ever since he was a child and lived in Mexico, has been the outcast of the family. You’d think that because he was a boy, the dad would love him to death. Not in this case, my dad would get grossed out when my brother would get home and want to eat because he did not eat at school all day due to financial issues. He would hate if he would go to the fridge more than twice a day, like everything he did bothered him. Nothing made my dad happy. If he was quiet he’d get yelled out for not talking, if he was loud he’d want to spank him. He would even get disrespected at the store in front of hundreds of people.When they arrived in the United States, Hector was in elementry school still and when he would ask my dad for help on his homework he’d yell at him for not understanding what was being asked, and would call him in spanish â€Å"estupido o un Idiota†. Data mining has many benefits. Stores are able to stock merchandise that better reflects what customers want. When Victoria’s Secret started tracking user purchases they noticed that customers in Miami bought much more white lingerie than customers in other areas. As a result they began stocking more white products instead of uniformly stocking all stores benefiting both the store and the customer[i]. Another benefit is that it allows companies to consolidate data from many different sources so that more time can be spent analyzing data than finding it in the first place. This is useful for companies that have multiple financial systems and spend a lot of time trying to combine data into a more useful format rather than doing the actual analysis of the data.
